Every medication has side effects.  A small dose of aspirin can kill you.  antibiotics can cause severe ALLERGIC reactions. Medications used for lowering cholesterol can cause severe muscle pains, liver problems, and problems with memory and concentration if the cognition gets effected. Blood pressure medications can cause depression.

In the same manner, psychiatric medications also have side effects. The common ones are,

Dry mouth, sleepiness, irritation, restlessness, headaches, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, akathisia (type of restlessness), tremor, tardive dyskinesia (repeating body movements that can happen after long-term use of medications especially antipsychotics, in population that is vulnerable especially like elderly), sexual side effects, liver changes, kidney problems.

You should report immediately to 911, called ambulance, and call your doctor  if you have suicidal or homicidal ideation and desire to self-harm or to others, after starting the medications. Don’t take intoxicating drinks or drugs. Don’t drive or operate machinery if drowsy.
